DELHI is the capital of India. The city is actually consisting of two parts. Old Delhi
was the capital of the Muslim India in between 17th and 19th centuries.
Many monuments, forts, mosques, etc. can be seen in old Delhi. British lately created the other part of the city - New Delhi, which is now the capital of India.
There have been at least eight cities around modern Delhi in the past. Starting from Indraprastha, which featured in the epic Mahabharata over 3000 years ago to the eighth city created by British in 1911 to move the capital city of India from Calcutta (now Kolkata)to Delhi.
As the capital of India, Delhi is a center for all the political activities within and around India. Delhi is also a major center for foreign travelers. Many major countries have their diplomatic offices and consulates based in Delhi.
AGRA: 200 Kms from Delhi, Agra is a historical city and the flower of the Mughal empire-in-ascendance. Agra is also home of to the immortal epitome of love, the Taj Mahal.

JAIPUR:265 kms from Delhi, Jaipur is the magical city carved out of the desert. Known as the Pink City, it was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.
Places to see: Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal.
HARDWAR: 200 Kms from Delhi, the sacred town of Hardwar marks the emergence of the Ganga into the plains, piercing through Shivalik range. The famous Kumbha Mela is held in Hardwar every 12 years.
Places to see: Har ki Pauri, Mansa Devi Temple, Rishikesh (25 Kms).
SHIMLA: 370 Kms from Delhi, Shimla was once the Summer Capital of British India. It still retains a colonial aura and offers beautiful view of the snow-clad peaks.
Places to see: Kufri, Chail,Naldera, Narkanda.
CORBETT: 290 Kms from Delhi, the Corbett National Park is one of the finest habitats of the tiger in India. It is a large valley with forested ridges running through it.
Places to see: Corbett National Park, Garjia Temple.
AMRITSAR: 465 Kms from Delhi, Amritsar is the holy city of the Sikhs. It is intimately linked with the colorful history of this martial race. It also holds the strategic importance due to its proximity to Pakistan border.
Places to see: Golden Temple, Jalian Wala Bagh, Wagah Border.
